Joanne Khew, a sustainable finance director at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore, has taken on a new environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing role at Eastspring Investments.

Khew has been appointed director, ESG specialist, at Eastspring, the Asian investment subsidiary of insurer Prudential.

Her role involves integrating ESG principles into the investment processes of a company with US$258 billion in assets under management.

She will report to Eastspring’s chief investment officer, Bill Maldonado, and will be based in Singapore. She will also work closely with the firm’s central sustainability team led by Stuart Wilson, who joined the company last December.

Prior to StanChart, where Khew’s work included the launch of voluntary carbon market exchange Climate Impact X, she worked in ESG specialist investment operations for  Sustainable Capital Markets Initiative, which aimed to drive green capital markets across the region.

Khew also had a year-long stint in the sustainability team at state investment firm Temasek, worked as assistant head of urban solutions and sustainability at Singapore’s National Research Foundation, and was manager of Centre for Liveable Cities, a sustainable cities thinktank.

Khew graduated with a doctorate in sustainability science from the University of Tokyo.
